Medieval Europe—The Rice University History Department invites applications for an assistant professorship in the field of Medieval Europe, with a preference for the Mediterranean.  The position is tenure track, entry level.  The successful candidate will teach a broad survey of the Middle Ages from about 800 and courses in fields of specialization.  Applicants should have completed their Ph.D. by July 1, 2010.  The appointment begins July 1, 2010.  Candidates should submit a letter of application, c.v., three letters of recommendation, a chapter-length writing sample, and evidence of teaching qualifications by December 1, 2009 to Chair Medieval Europe Search, Rice University, Department of History MS# 42, PO Box 1892, Houston, TX  77251-1892.  Rice University is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer.
