Dr. Caleb McDaniel's book The Problem of Democracy in the Age of Slavery: Garrisonian Abolitionists and Transatlantic Reform (LSU Press, 2013) has won one of the top book prizes in American history, a 2014 Merle Curti Award from the Organization of American Historians. Two awards are given annually by the Organization of American Historians: one to the author of the best book in American social history; and one to the author of the best book in American intellectual history.
